How to Kick a Soccer Ball with Power

A key area to get better at soccer is in shooting, and many like to do this by improving their power kicks. If you play in an offensive position, then your power kicks would be a great thing to work on, and if you do it right, then you can learn to kick the ball quite fast without blowing it over the crossbar.

Technique:

To hit the ball right when doing a power kick, you should kick it with your laces -or the top of your foot- and not the inside of your foot like you would when passing. It is also good to come at the ball from a slight angle and try to avoid putting any sort of spin an the ball. This will actually allow the ball to move at a faster speed. Also, though it may seem obvious, be sure that you also swing your leg as fast as you’re able to to put as much force into your kick as you can. In addition, bringing your leg farther back can also help apply more force. If you are having trouble with kicking the ball too high, then there is a way to fix this. Try to lean forward, and avoid bringing your leg too high when you kick. Both of these factors should help level out the altitude of your kicks. One more element that can be quite helpful in having a powerful kick is the speed at which you are traveling when you hit the ball. If you run or sprint up to the ball to kick it then you’ll hit it much more powerfully than you would if you were simply jogging or standing still. This may end up being harder to control in terms of aiming and altitude so adjust your speed to what works best for you. As you grow more and more comfortable with that, if you want to, then you can begin adding more speed to your run up.

Keep working at it

You most likely won’t immediately master the technique. So I recommend that if you’re able to, then take time to regularly to go out to your local soccer field (or anywhere that they have full-sized soccer goals) and practice. If you stick with it, you should certainly see improvement over time.
